Hyderabad (or city of pearls) is an important South Indian city and the capital of Andhra Pradesh. The languages predominantly spoken in Hyderabad are Telugu, Urdu and Hindi. Nizams ruled this historic city before it became part of the Indian state. Important places of interest in Hyderabad include Charminar, Golconda Fort, Salarjung Museum, Hussain Sagar, Birla Mandir and Ramoji Film City. The city is world famous for its authentic Dum Biryani and Haleem. Telugu film industry is the second largest producer of motion pictures. N.T. Rama Rao, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Anjali Devi, Savitri, Chiranjeevi were legendary actors who ruled Tollywood for several decades.

Hitec City is a hub for information technology companies. The credit for bringing in IT companies to Hyderabad goes to former Chief Minister, Chandrababu Naidu. IT giants Google and Microsoft have located their India head quarters in Hyderabad. Important shopping destinations in Hyderabad are Lad Bazar, King Koti and Abids. Ethnic and gorgeous salwar suits can be purchased for a good bargain in prominent shopping areas of the city.

Leading educational institutions and medical colleges dot the city. Students in Hyderabad can choose to study Telugu, Urdu or Hindi as their optional language in secondary school. Osmania University was the first university in Hyderabad (opened in 1918). The university attracts several international students. Leading sports personalities from Hyderabad include Cricketers VVS Laxman & Mohammad Azharuddin, Badminton players Jwala Gutta & Saina Nehwal and Tennis player, Sania Mirza.

Hyderabad is a blend of old and new - rich Nizami culture and cosmopolitan culture of India.
