city : JodhpurJodhPur City is the second largest city in Rajasthan. The city is also known as "Sun City" since it receives ample sunlight throughout the year. Hindi is the official language of Jodhpur, while Rajasthani is spoken at home. Jodhpur was founded by Rao Jodha in the year 1459. Temperature can go beyond 40 C in the summer months (March to May), whereas the rainy months are from June to September each year. The city is well connected by road, rail and air. Jodhpur is the head quarters of North Western Railway. Surrounded by hills, Jodhpur attracts tourists from around the world for its many forts, palaces and temples. In fact, tourism is the second largest industry of Jodhpur. Places of attraction in Jodhpur include Mehrangarh Fort, Umaid Bhavan Palace, Bhim Bhirak Cave, Kaylana Lake and Garden, Akshardam Temple and ISKCON temple. Agriculture is the primary occupation in Jodhpur. Wheat is grown extensively. A special variety of red chilli called "Mathania" is grown only here. Woolen goods can be purchased for a bargain in the city. Other prominent industries include handicraft and mining. The sweets from Jodhpur are known for their unique taste. Sweets carrying centuries old tradition of Jodhpur include Malpua, Besan Burfi, Ras Malai, and Gulab Jamun. Famous dishes from the city include Makhaniya Lassi, Dal Bhati Churma, Kachori and Aate Ka Halwa. The city is a hub of educational and medical institutions.
