city : Tirupathi
Tirupathi is known as the abode of Lord Venkateshwara, the primary God of Vaishnavites. It is also home for several leading educational institutions. Located in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, it is a very big pilgrimage center (also known as Booloka Vaikuntam). Telugu and Tamil are predominantly spoken here.
An important and auspicious event that is held in September every year is 'Purattasi Brahmotsavam' (held over 9 days). Thousands of pilgrims visit Tirupati during this time every year. Another event that is celebrated with much fanfare is Rathasaptami (in the month of February). Devotees from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala (besides the home state Andhra Pradesh) visit Tirumala to get the blessings of Lord Venkateshwara. State transport corporations operate a number of buses to Tirumala and also organize package tours to this holy destination. Tickets to Tirumala can be purchased from TTD offices located in major cities. E-ticket and E-darshan services are also available. The Ladoos that are offered to the Lord and later distributed as 'prasad' to the devotees deserve special mention.
Venkateshwara Suprabatham rendered by M.S. Subbulakshmi is played every day in Tirumala. The devotees, who throng in large numbers offer cash or gold to the Lord. The Lord is believed to be very powerful and fulfills the prayers of His devotees. Senior citizens and physically challenged individuals are given special entry passes. They are taken care of by TTD officials. Tirupati is well connected to other parts of the country by rail, road and air.
Every devotee aims to visit the temple at least once in his life time.
