Applying for a Job - Basic Dos and Donts

Applying for a job is an activity that comes into the picture only after one has assessed one's strengths, evaluated all the available opportunities and identified prospect companies to apply for.

Currently, applying by way of an email is the easiest option although several companies provide the option of submitting resume by way of an online form. Here is a list of some Dos and Donts that one has to bear in mind when applying for a job

Dos - if applying by Email

1. Appropriate Subject in the email - Job Code or Title
2. Include a brief introduction in the body of the email highlighting the key strengths relevant
to the job that one is applying for
3.Attach only a recent copy of the resume' preferably in pdf or send url link if available online.
4. Spend time on understanding the job position and your mail should reflect the understanding

Do not

1.No Hurry! Some people send one mail to several organizations and sometimes even copy the mail to several people. This is not a good practice!
2.Avoid writing emotional statements
3.Applying without a covering note is not considered professional
4.Avoid calling the organization - unless it is a recruiter who placed the job advertisement.
