Chennai is the capital of Tamil Nadu, a state located in South India. Chennai was previously known as Madras. It is also known as the intellectual capital or the cultural hub of the country. Chennai is one of the first Indian cities founded by the British and has some of the oldest educational institutions of the country. The languages spoken in the city include Tamil, Telugu and English. The city is well connected to major cities and towns throughout India by rail/air and to international destinations by air.
Chennai is a city by the beach and originally comprised of several villages (such as Triplicane and Mylapore) each known for their large temples, festivities and strong cultural environment. The people from the city are known to be quite hospitable. The city is always known to be peaceful and comprises some very large residential colonies (such as T.Nagar and Anna Nagar). In the last couple of decades, one has seen a massive growth in the automotive and IT sectors in Chennai. This has transformed a predominantly flat city to a vertical one with several high rises (both offices and residential apartments).
People of the city are known to be hard working. The Chennai carnatic music season in the months of December-January every year is known to attract fans from around the world. Chennai has a large number of educational institutions for students at all levels and catering to various specializations.
If you have not visited the city before, it is a "must see" place.
