City : RajahmundryRajahmundry (aka cultural capital of Andhra Pradesh) is the biggest city of East & West Godavari districts. It is one of the oldest cities in India. The city is often known as the birthplace of Telugu language and the first Telugu poet Nannayya was born here. Paddy and Sugarcane are primarily cultivated in this region. The temperature can go up to 48 C during the months of May and June. The city is well connected by rail, road and air. Places of tourist attraction in Rajahmundry include River Godavari, Gowthami Ghat and Kotilinga Ghat. Other popular picnic spots are Pattiseema and Papi Hills. The waterfalls and dense forests attract a large number of visitors. It is advisable to visit Rajahmundry in December or January. There are a number of leading cloth merchants as well as jewellery shops in the city. The city is an education hub as well. Dr. Savepalli Radhakrishnan, former President of India taught in the 150-year old Government College in Rajahmundry. Freedom fighter Durgabai Deshmukh is from here.
