MakeinIndia is an initiative from the Government of India to attract investments into manufacturing in India.

At the outset, one may wonder, why India? why now? Especially at a time when developed economies are barely growing and developing economies are showing exhaustion. But when one looks at the rapid advancements in technology that are disrupting existing supply chains and the increasing costs of transportation which are making products made in distant places lose in the competition, one understands the timing of makeinindia initiative.

New investments that are based on latest technologies, for example, 3D printing and manufactured closer to customers are likely to be the new trend, to cater to demand in countries like India that offer huge market.

Automobile manufacturing in India is one example that demonstrates how companies are manufacturing closer to its customers and succeeding. Given that automobiles are also increasingly becoming electronic, a new wave of investments could be attracted in manufacturing electronic components that go into the manufacturing of new Automobiles.

A whole lot of new opportunities are likely to emerge in other sectors including shipping, maritime, consumer electronics, aerospace and defence, healthcare etc.
