SCCI Workshop: April 30, 2026

Achieving Global Competitive Advantage in Semiconductor Chip Design -- Apr 04, 2026

Indian industry and government makers have together invested trillions of rupees into the semiconductor fabrication, assembly and test space.

While there is a tens of thousands strong technically skilled work force across India's high end chip design services groups working for decades at firms - due to their business models they are constrained to work with supply chain defined roles and responsibilities - often working with diminished end use market visibility.

Achieving global competitive advantage in semiconductor chip design requires precisely such visibility. Over a period such visibility turns into vision and when combined with strategy and execution transforms into market place leadership and dominance.

Most digital systems that find large scale application are designed by dominant players who with decades of experience have gained capabilities to turn vision into digital reality.

At the core of any system design capable of delivering digital experiences globally are realisation platforms in the form of semiconductor chips.

These chips are architected to essentially perform all key activities required to deliver the desired experiences. The design process for these chips encompasses design choices from a large number of dimensions. As a result these semiconductor chips embed a microcosm of system wide design choices and capabilities into a single chip.

A system on chip is often referred to as an SoC.

Going from designing any semiconductor chip to an SoC is a huge jump in capability and knowledge encompassing all aspects of the supply chain, market place and technology.

Designing a chip and taping it out successfully is fundamentally different from achieving global competitive advantage in SoC design.

What does it take to achieve global competitive advantage in turning an idea to an SoC ?

SCCI Enterprise R&D Workshop April 2026 is bringing together experts from across the spectrum of systems development over a round table. Speaker invitations have been sent. We are hopeful that all capable teams will participate.

In a first for an SCCI enterprise R&D event - included based on strong feedback to the round table is a workshop on System Design Automation delivered by SANKHYA EdVantage team - the same team which trained a group of researchers at Bharat Electronics Limited on the development of distributed fault tolerant systems in the year 2003 !

Here are the links to the program
