Bharatanatyam Performance- Tanya Saxena- Kolkata- 18th February 2016 Bharatanatyam Performance-Tanya Saxena - Kolkata- 18th February 2016 A Report Photo credits -Pranab Basu Tanya Saxena, an emerging talent in the field of Bharatantyam from Delhi, recently presented a performance at the Satyajit Ray Auditorium, ICCR, Kolkata. Tanya is a disciple of Padma Bhushan Dr. Saroja Vaidyanathan and Shrimati Rama Vaidyanathan and has been performing extensively across the country and teaching dance at Ganesa Natyalaya, New Delhi. Beginning with a traditional Pushpanjali, Tanya wove her way through the traditional margam format with flair and creating an evening of delight for the rasikas present in the audience. Tanya presented Pushpanjali and Pathanjali Muni’s reverberating Shambhu Natanam to begin with, a befitting ode to Lord Nataraja. She followed this with a Tanjore Quartet varnam, composed by the youngest of the four brothers Vadivelu, depicting a nayika pining for Lord Vishnu. The varnam showed Tanya at her best, maneuvering between complicated passages of nritta interspersed with portions of intense Abhinaya. She followed this with a padam, “Yennadaina vintina”, in ragam murali and misra chapu composed by the matestro Balamuralikrishna. Despite being in Telugu, the piece, depicting a Khandita nayika, served as a crowd favourite, with Tanya portraying the character convincingly. Tanya went on to present an ashtapadi in Ragam Mohana and Adi showing the raas between Krishna and the gopis before concluding with a Tillana in Ragam Varamu and Adi, a befitting finale for an enjoyable evening. ******* "View PriyaLasya Artist Space" "Read a PriyaLasya Report" "Read PriyaLasya Preview of this Program" *Information as provided by contributor.
